WORKSHOP:
Rob Canning is a composer and a network artist. His work focuses on finding a dialogue between algorithmic system based composition strategies and intuitive/improvised approaches. His instrumental works have been performed and commissioned by ensembles such as the London Sinfonietta, the Con Tempo string quartet, the RTE National Chamber Choir of Ireland and Ensemble Concorde amongst others.

Rob gave us a little inside on what open source is really about. How you can get all sorts of sources from the net tweak it and make it your own design. The best part of all, how it's completely free. Yup not a single penny.

The website above has everything that has got to do with pure data. From webpage software to information kiosk providing all alternatives to open source data. http://puredata.info

Rob then gave us few tips on working with this special websites which the components can be broken down to :

INKSCAPE
Copyleft is one of the main innovations of open source licensing which is a word play on copyright. Copyright law is used by an author to prohibit others from reproducing, adapting, or distributing copies of the author’s work.

In contrast, Copyleft allows an author to give out copies of a work with permission to reproduce, adapt or distribute, but requires any resulting copies or adaptations to also be bound by the same license agreement. Copyleft is in reality enforced by copyright.

Copyleft vs Copyright

* attribution (give credits)
* no derivative works
* share a like
* non commercial

"FLOSS + Art" shows how the value of Free Software lies in its differences and creative challenges, as opposed to out of the box and off the shelf solutions; how it allows to work and collaborate differently with computers, and therefore enable different kinds of art and design.

FLOSS + Art critically reflects on the growing relationship between Free Software philosophy, open content and digital art. It provides first hand insight into its social, political and economic myths and
realities.
The website above has everything that has got to do with the differences of copy left and copy right. It also shows and proves how it deals with the law plus some rules to go about it.

Open Prototype

Close Prototype

- An open prototype is one that involves the user in a direct way. It is typically something you could hand over to a user.

- A closed prototype is an experience that users watch, but won’t interact with directly. The lack of direct user interaction can make it harder to learn from a closed prototype. But it can also be quite effective.

INKSCAPE
Inkscape is one of the open source 2d vector graphics editor. It supports all of the standard drawing features. Similiar to Adobe Illustrator (the copyright source). Curves (bezier), lines, freehand drawing including calligraphy stroke together with geometric figures can be used to build your drawing. Extra tools such as the advanced gradient fill tool gives the drawings substance and brings them to life.
The website above is a quick guide on how to work inkscape with no experience needed. It helps you in every different aspects. In addition to that, it anwsers all the doubts and errors we face.
